Double Indemnity
“I’m crazy about ‘cha baby.”
Bombshell Barbara Stanwyck plays the classic femme fatale to Fred MacMurray’s vulnerable hunk in this cat-and-mouse thriller.
Nothing pulls a look together like fabulous jewelry. Our favorite fashion moment from this flick was when Phyllis Dietrichson (Stanwyck) comes downstairs to meet Walter Neff (MacMurray) for the first time, wearing a gorgeous chunky ring and dark pendant. Even Neff comments on her lovely anklet! If you’re into accessorizing with jewelry, check out FIDM’s Jewelry Design Program.
Film Noir-Inspired Fashion
We’ve picked our favorite looks from three stylish noir films we wouldn’t mind watching over and over again!
Sunset Blvd
“Alright, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up.”
Gloria Swanson nails it as aging silent film actress Norma Desmond who becomes obsessed with a handsome younger man, played by William Holden.
Adding an animal print to an outfit instantly ups the glam quotient! Our favorite fashion moment in this movie took place in Desmond’s (Swanson) car. The entire interior of the vehicle was lined in animal print--divine! If you’re into animal prints, paisleys, and polka dots, check out FIDM’s Textile Design Program.
All About Eve
“Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night.”
This chilling movie features Bette Davis as New York thespian Margo Channing and angelic-faced Anne Baxter as her crazed fan, Eve Harrington.
We’ve never been shy about our affections for dresses, but dresses with pockets--fuggetaboutit! Our favorite fashion moment from this film was, hands down, the party scene in which Margo Channing (Davis) dons a floor-length dress with fur-trimmed pockets! If you’re into amazing fashion, check out FIDM’s Fashion Design Program.
