Grab some popcorn and a box of Junior Mints! We’re going behind the scenes to reel in the latest on must-see movies, film fashion, set design, and more!

Whether it’s the amazing costumes, the edge-of-your-seat action, or the endearing characters, one thing’s for sure—Hollywood just wouldn’t be the same if it weren’t for these Latin filmmakers!

Attention
Movie Buffs!

Think the best part about a trip to the movies is the trailers before the feature film?  Do you love the special effects used in films like Pan’s Labyrinth and Grindhouse?  If you answered yes, then click here now to learn about FIDM’s Digital Media Program and find out how you can have an exciting career in the movie industry!

And don't forget to read about FIDM Graphic Design Student Sarah Neyhart, a 2008 Hollywood Reporter Key Art Student Award winner! Sarah's movie poster design scored her the highly-coveted Publisher's Award!

Alfonso Cuarón

It’s not surprising that many of our favorite movies have had the same director at the helm—Alfonso Cuarón.  His hits include Children of Men, Paris, je t’aime, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and A Little Princess (the sweetest film of all time if you ask us!).  Next on his plate is The History of Love, the story of a long-lost book that somehow connects an old man looking for his son with a young lady looking for a companion for her mother.  Hmmm…do we spy a delicious romance on the horizon?

Guillermo del Toro

From comic book adaptations like Hellboy and Blade II to the sci-fi thriller Mimic, director Guillermo del Toro clearly has a talent for making blockbuster films.  We’re particularly fond of the critically acclaimed Pan’s Labyrinth (El laberinto del fauno) for its positively breathtaking costumes and fantasy-filled storyline.  Look for Hellboy II: The Golden Army this summer, and stay tuned for 3993, a ghost story that, like his other films, will surely raise the hair on the back of your neck!  (And if you find the costumes in Guillermo’s films as awesome as we do, click here to check out the Film & TV Costume Design Program at FIDM!)

Robert Rodriguez

He’s won an ALMA Award; is always a favorite at the Sundance Film Festival; has worked with Hollywood A-listers including Salma Hayek, Jessica Alba, and Lost’s Naveen Andrews; and never fails to give eager audiences a healthy dose of nonstop action—no wonder we’re literally counting down the months until Robert Rodriguez’s films Sin City 2, Sin City 3, and Shorts finish production and come to a theater near us!  For now we’ll settle for a girl’s night with friends, a bowl of popcorn, and a copy of Rodriguez’s Grindhouse and Planet Terror starring Rose McGowan.
