How to Submit

Project 1. Fashion Design
Overview:

  1. Imagine that you have been hired to design three (3) Prom dresses inspired by the celebrity of your choice. Each entrant must submit three (3) illustration boards (showing one design each) influenced by a trendy, fashion-conscious celebrity of your choice. Please be sure your ideas are clear and concise.

  2. Project must be done on illustration board (8-1/2" x 11" or 8-1/2" x 14"), in color (watercolor, colored pencils, markers, or other color medium).  Please do not use charcoals or pastels. Be sure that coloration does not obscure the details of the garment.

  3. A fabric material swatch (max. size 2”x 2”) must be attached to each entry to illustrate the type, color, and texture of materials as shown in the illustration. The subject matter of entries is restricted to fashion apparel.

Project 2. Fashion Merchandising
Overview:

  1. Imagine you are starting your own Prom boutique. What would it look like? Design the ultimate Prom retail store experience. What might be the challenges or opportunities you’ll face in running a Prom boutique? Be sure to define target customer, create store layout, select merchandise/service mix, and create a promotional marketing plan.

  2. On standard 8-1/2" x 11" white typing paper, double-spaced, in five pages or less, type the answers to the following questions:

    A) Store Customer: Describe the target market, including all demographics and psychographics. (Demographics include age, gender, income range, and where the person lives. Psychographics refer to personality traits. What type of person are you targeting?)

    B) Store Identity: Give the new Prom boutique a special name.

    C) Store Promotions: Come up with a promotional plan for this store, including the following:
    1) What types of advertising would be used to reach the customer?
    2) Other promotion possibilities (e.g. gift with purchase, publicity, guest appearances, etc.).
    3) A calendar of events listing all of the events to be included during Prom season (January-June).

  3. On 15" x 20" illustration boards (horizontal only), using photos, magazines, newspaper, tape, glue, felt-tip markers, colored pencils, or computers, create the following:

    A) Inspiration Board: Show the type of items you plan to sell in your boutique. Use this board as your inspiration for parts B-C.

    B) Floor Plan: Design a floor plan for your store that includes focal points areas where you would place displays.

    C) Window Display: Create a window display for the store that reflects its image and the customers who shop there. (Don’t forget about lighting, fixtures, and furniture if they help to create the atmosphere).
