At Fashion Club headquarters, we’re
constantly seeking new sources of
inspiration--from the latest looks by our
favorite fashion and interior designers
to blogs, books, and museum exhibits! For this year’s Back-to-School Contest, we asked
Fashion Club members to show (and tell) us what inspires them the most. The prize
packs included shopping sprees, digital cameras, industry magazine subscriptions, and
other great prizes. We chose one winner for each prize pack category. Congrats to our
winners—we hope their winning entries will inspire you!

Carissa P.'s Winning Essay:

Most people would agree that adolescence is the age of wanting to fit in. However,
I view adolescence as the age of experience—finding your own way of standing out.

The past is one of my key inspirations. Since fashion is a cycle, many of the fashions
that were once popular in the past become popular in the future. The brownish hue
that covers my poster resembles that aged look. My inspiration comes from nearly every
decade. The gold, of the flower found in the lower right-hand corner, represents the
reserved fashions found in the 1990s, whereas the purple side represents the bolder
fashions found in the 1960s. Because models play the canvas to a designer’s art, the
Eat or Die campaign is an enormous inspiration to me. Just as a painter makes little adjustments to his/her canvas, a designer should have little alterations to make when
fitting a model.
