| As I’m pushing hangers
of a clothes from the left to the right side of my closet,
I yawn to myself. “Honesly, where am I going to
find a unique, elegant, but comfortable dress for tonight’s
big night?” (My big night being Charter Oak High
School’s Annual Thespian Award Show). Suddenly,
like the flick of a light switch that sets off a brightly
burning light, are two words: Raggedy Threads. Located
in the heart of Covina is a small-yet-selective shop known
as Raggedy Threads Vintage Shoppe. I quickly phone the
place, asking how the selection of vintage dresses are.
“We have an abundance at the moment, from almost
every era and in many different shapes and sizes.”
“Perfect.” As I enter the store, I head straight
to the dress rack, located at the back of the shop. In
a matter of only five minutes, I spot a beautiful sea-foam
green dress. Its unique color immediately grabs my attention
and when I try it on, I find that its material miraculously
accentuates my body perfectly. After purchasing the dress,
I head home to finish the piece by adding a men’s
brown suede vest used in Charter Oak’s rendition
of “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying,”
an old gold locket given to me by my mother, and finish
it with matching BC wedges from Nordstrom. As I enter
our school’s theater, I feel all eyes on me. Perfect. |

I think it is safe to say
that at only fifteen years old, I am already a seasoned
shopper. I cannot remember a time when I was not shopping
with my mom and dad. I guess you could say they taught
me how to shop and bargain hunt. I shop pretty much every
weekend, although somehow I manage to never spend obscene
amounts of money. I really love to shop at discount stores.
My favorite is Century 21. There is nothing more exciting
then finding a pair of Seven jeans at Century 21 for $60
rather then $160! I go to the Century 21 on Long Island
often. I love buying high-fashion designer items for less
then the original price. Unfortunately I have not been
able to shop at the Century 21 in the city, although I
have always wanted too.
I love to mix and match to create my look. Another place
I love to shop “cheap and chic” is H&M.
In my opinion, H&M is the best place to shop for very
trendy chic items without breaking the bank. You can find
a gorgeous sweater there for only $20! They also have
all your basic layering needs with prices ranging from
$4 to $10. I really do not believe that there is a place
on Long Island where you can get fashion-forward clothing
and beat their prices. Like Century 21, I have only been
able to shop at the Long Island stores. I would really
love shopping in the Manhattan stores since they probably
have an even better selection. |
