sewing machine with

We received a record-breaking number of entries for our "Sew On!" contest and we loved reading each and every one of your fantastic essays! It was hard to choose, but one entrant "sewed up" her win with an excellent essay on how she'd use her sewing machine. Read Gabrielle's winning essay below. We're excited to help her make her vision a reality!

Gabrielle's Entry:

Take a look at what you're wearing right now. It all began with a spark in the imagination of a daring and creative person. That idea took shape on paper and eventually came together in a mass of vibrant threads. To some recipients, it may be just another wrinkled mystery lying in the back of their closet. To others, it’s a masterpiece of art. I choose to be neither of these types of people. Instead, my desire is to be the one that is sparked with the ideas that could end up on the bodies of people all over the world. My fantasy is to use the gifts and talents I've been given as a way of blessing others. When I was younger, I suffered from an eating disorder. It is the most horrible thing to feel like you don't match up to the views of others or even your own views. Sadly, these feelings take place every day in our society. I want to make a line of clothing that promotes one thing--true beauty. Although the visions of clothes that I will design are beautiful, I want my true message to promote the beauty that comes from within. If I were able to be blessed with this sewing machine, it would be the beginning of a life-long mission of blessing others in return.
