Want to bask in culture and find inspiration for your designs?
Then the world famous J. Paul Getty museum is just the place to visit. With two locations in the Los Angeles area, the Getty has
one of the largest art collections in the city, and the Malibu
location, called the Getty Villa, houses 44,000 works of art alone, 1,200 of which are on display.
If you’re a design student looking for some new ideas, then the answers might just lie in the past, and at the Getty you’ll be
able to extensively study how people of yesteryear outfitted themselves while tracing the evolution of fashion. Interior Design students can marvel at the beautiful construction of the multi-million dollar facilities, both of which have been specifically
tailored to be works of art themselves. |
Log-on to the Getty’s website, at www.getty.edu/museum, for more information and directions, as well as a list of upcoming events suchas the revolutionary photographic work of Sigmar Polke, which will be on display through late May.
The best part about the Getty, though, is the price, with no admission fee whatsoever and
a simple ticketing process available through the website. Now, who ever said you only get what you pay for? |

The historic Hollywood Pantages theatre has played host to
some of the most glamorous events and popular plays ever,
and now the spellbinding untold story of the Witches of Oz is coming to town.
Weaving the tale of what happened in the Land of Oz before Dorothy and her friends followed the Yellow Brick Road,
“Wicked” the musical explores just how the Wicked of Witch
of the West became so, well, wicked. With music and lyrics by Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz, “Wicked” became
the all-time highest grossing Broadway show with its initial run,
so try to get your tickets early from the Pantages box office
or Ticketmaster.
The exquisite costuming by Tony Award winner Susan Hilferty
is just one more reason that this is not a play to miss. The Pantages is located on Hollywood Blvd. near the heart of
historic Hollywood, making pre-show dining and taking in
the atmosphere a must.
As you enter, you can see the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which runs down the boulevard, so be sure to watch your footing to
see the stars of your favorite stars. With a great show at a great location, the only thing “Wicked” about this musical would be
not seeing it. |

While everyone has heard of “The Happiest Place on Earth,”
the newest addition to the legendary theme park property, Downtown Disney, helps widen the appeal of the Orange
County locale and proves what we’ve always know--that Disneyland isn’t just for kids.
Perfect for people of all ages, Downtown Disney offers
many different restaurants, novelty stores, and an expansive
movie theater. There’s even a House of Blues, so that you
can see your favorite artists up-close and personal. Large
acts are lining up to perform at the venue, and a quick look
at the House of Blues website, www.hob.com, will tell you
what artists are appearing when.
With a separate parking lot from the theme park, Downtown
Disney offers the first three hours of parking free with validation
for extended time if you dine or watch a film. If your trip includes
a visit to Disneyland or California Adventure, the end of the shopping stretch drops you off at the entrances to the theme
parks, or end your day with Downtown Disney--a stop at the restaurants or the movie theater is the perfect way to chill after
a day of jaw-dropping rides. |
