While most of us might look at an old muumuu and see nothing but uninspired, unusable fabric, Anna Mkhitarian spots an opportunity to create something beautiful and original. Using recycled, vintage, and eco-friendly materials, she literally transforms old into new for Annatarian, her line of unbelievably gorgeous, eco-friendly, couture gowns. |

“Eco-couture is fashion with a conscious,” says Anna. The designer, who started her line in 2001, can certainly be considered a pioneer in the eco-friendly clothing arena. Long before the current trend, the Los Angeles native was using environmentally friendly materials and non-toxic paints to create her one-of-a-kind dresses, even going so far as to use “peace silk,” which comes from the silkworms only after they have emerged from their cocoons. |

Besides being kind to the earth (and its silkworms), Annatarian gowns are truly beautiful works of art, and whimsical dress style names such as ‘Fairy,’ ‘Magical Castle,’ and ‘Sprite’ make them even more appealing. “Fairy tales do come true and you can learn a lot from them,” Anna explains, no doubt referring to the peace and harmony that is characteristic of such stories. This is translated in one of her designs, which combines a vintage muumuu with a vintage kimono, symbolizing peace and unity after the events of Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima. |

In addition to her signature couture line, Anna has also created Peace Love Earth, a line of eco-conscious jewelry made from recycled sterling silver and “designed to inspire positive change.” With appearances on The View and the Style Network, Anna is definitely sparking awareness and inspiring the positive change she wants to see in the world. |
