Debut 2006 is FIDM’s annual Fashion Show and Gala Event. The Fashion Show features exciting designs for men, women, and children by graduating students in our Fashion Design and Theatre Costume Design Advanced Study Programs. Debut 2006 celebrity guests included Project Runway 2 stars Daniel Franco, Guadalupe Vidal, Raymundo Baltazar, and Santino Rice, all of whom are FIDM Grads. (FIDM Instructor and Grad, Nick Verreos--another Project Runway favorite—was unable to attend because he was busy covering fashion at the Olympics in Torino, Italy.) Celebrity designer and FIDM Grad Kevan Hall was also on hand for the Gala Event, which was emceed by the legendary Hollywood actor Robert Wagner.
This year, the audience also received a special treat when models wearing costumes from the FIDM Museum & Galleries’ recent groundbreaking exhibition, Dressing a Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars, took a turn on the runway at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar.

On exhibit at Debut 2006 was the annual Chairing Styles project, produced in cooperation with West Hollywood’s Avenues of Art & Design organization. Ten Interior Design and ten Fashion Design students paired up and collaborated to develop a matching chair and dress, both made from the same fabric. This year the group worked with denim provided by The FIDM Scholarship Store to create the elegant pairs shown in the photos. A presentation of the Chairing Styles exhibit will be part of West Hollywood’s annual Art & Design Walk on Saturday, June 3. |
